How to convert odds to implied probability

  1. Negative American odds. Implied % = odds ÷ (odds + 100), using the absolute value. -150 → 150 ÷ 250 = 60%.
  2. Positive American odds. Implied % = 100 ÷ (odds + 100). +150 → 100 ÷ 250 = 40%.
  3. Decimal odds. Implied % = 1 ÷ decimal. 2.50 → 40%.
  4. Remove the vig. Divide each side's implied % by the sum of both sides to get fair probabilities that add to 100%.

FAQ

What does implied probability mean?

It is the win probability at which a bet breaks even. If you think the true chance is higher, the bet is +EV.

Why do both sides add up to more than 100%?

That excess is the bookmaker's margin (vig or juice). A -110/-110 market totals 104.76%, a 4.76% overround.

What is no-vig probability?

The implied probabilities rescaled so they sum to 100%. It is the market's best estimate of the fair chance.
